Cristiano Ronaldo remains committed to Al Nassr despite league disappointment
Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a statement after his club Al Nassr failed to win the Saudi Pro League (SPL) title, despite the 38-year-old striker's 14 goals in 16 games.
Ronaldo, who became the highest-paid player in football history when joining Al Nassr in January in a deal worth around £200million, said he was happy to continue at the club.
"I want to continue here," he said.
"I've adapted to life here.
There are many differences from my time in Europe, but I'm happy here." Despite his efforts, Al Nassr finished second behind Al Ittihad, and Ronaldo finished empty-handed.
He also pointed out some issues with the league infrastructure, including the referees and VAR system, which he said needed improvement.
Other top players have been linked with a move to the Saudi league, including Ronaldo's former Real Madrid team-mate and Ballon d'Or winner, Karim Benzema, who has reportedly received an offer worth more around £200m from Al Ittihad.
Ronaldo said he would welcome other big players and names to the league, and that age was not important.
He also said that if they came, the league would improve.
