Minister of Health and Wellness, Jeffrey Bostic remains at the helm, despite being in quarantine.
The Health Minister, on the advice of Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George, has quarantined himself after attending the arrival ceremony of 95 Ghanaian nurses at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA). Nine of the nurses tested positive for
COVID-19 and the Minister as well as media personnel were ordered to "separate themselves from their workplaces" and await testing.
speaking during a virtual news conference over the weekend, when he stated he will remain on top of his ministerial duties while physically distancing at home.
"I speak to you on this occasion from my home because you would have been informed of the decision of the chief medical officer to recommend self-monitoring for some of us who would have come into contact no matter how minor with persons testing how positive for the
coronavirus late last week.
I may be physically away from the office and the many centres involved in the management and coordination of our response to the
COVID-19 pandemic but nevertheless, I remain fully in touch and in control of the process," the minister remarked.
As he updated the public on the most recent
COVID-19 cases, Bostic beseeched locals to abide by the stipulated
COVID-19 protocols and not to be complacent.
"I implore all Barbadians not to let our guards down. The well tested and proven washing of hands, social distancing, and the wearing of protective masks are vital to our continued success in this battle. Do not take anything for granted. Do not assume that all cases should be of those persons arriving in the country.
As a nation, we have to be on alert and we have to be mindful of the fact that at some point we could have a difficult trace case popping up. I urge all Barbadians and residents to continue to practice all protocols set forth by relevant authorities."
